Frightening and hilarious at the same time. Just as Jr. High Youth Ministry should be. Frightening and hilarious at the same time. Just as Jr. High Youth Ministry should be.

ALL  LIT  UP!

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them….You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Matthew 5:1-2; 13-15

Our Winter Camp weekend was incredible. It was filled with games, worship, food, music, food, shakes, activities, food, an amazing speaker, oh, did I mention food?   The theme for the weekend was, “Be Light” where we learned what it means to be light and what the difference between light and dark is.

More importantly, we learned where the source of our light is and what being light really means.

In  the two scriptures above, Jesus tells us he is the light of the world and we can live in light when we follow him. He then tells us that WE are the light of the world. Wait…what? Did I just hear what I thought I heard?
Jesus, who is the Light of the world, tells US that WE are the light of
the world. What does that mean? We are charged with the responsibility to reflect Jesus’ light to the darkness around us.

And there IS darkness.

Sometimes we don’t want to see it. Other times, we don’t realize it’s there.

The bigger lesson we learned at Winter Camp is that in order to shine light, we have to know our Source – Jesus Christ.
The more we know him and the more we really understand what he did for us, the more we will want to shine. We won’t be able to help it.
